  • Advice for staying safe around water

    Mon 18 Jul 2022

The emergency services have concerns that, with schools closing early in the continuing hot weather, young people may be out more in the community and therefore need to raise awareness about the dangers of open water swimming.

Advice for staying safe around water

·Never swim in open water when there are no life-guards present

·Stop and think – spot the dangers. Don't jump or dive into open water; submerged objects such as rocks may not be visible and can cause serious injuries

    ·Stay together

·Be aware that there may be strong currents, even where the water surface appears calm

·Weirs, locks, pipes and sluices are especially dangerous

·Take note of warning signs, safety information or flags near the water's edge

·Water can be very cold even in summer, causing cramp and breathing difficulties – these can affect even the strongest swimmer

·Get out of the water as soon as you start to feel cold

·Keep away from the river's edge and closely supervise young children at all times

·Wear the recommended safety equipment for your activity, e.g. life jackets/helmets

·Alcohol may impair your ability and judgment; never go swimming under the influence of alcohol

    ·In an emergency, float

    ·Call 999 or 112 in an emergency.

  • Weather Warning!

    Fri 15 Jul 2022

    Advice for Monday & Tuesday

Kidderminster has been issued an Alert Level 3 warning for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday with temperatures predicted to top 38 degrees.

If your child has any underlying health or medical condition that will be made worse during this time, please let us know. It may be wise for them to remain at home where parents can regulate their temperature.

Likewise, if there are any parents that wish to keep their child at home as excessive heat could lead to their child being adversely affected, please let us know.

School will be open, and we will try our very best to maintain a cool and calm environment for all. We will avoid spending time outside during peak times. Children are advised to wear cool, light clothing including a sun hat and must have a drinks bottle that can be refilled in School throughout the day.

  • Sports Day 14th July 2022

    Wed 13 Jul 2022

    Sports Day 2022

The forecast for Sports Day tomorrow is for beautiful sunshine so we would recommend all children are covered in sunscreen, wear a sunhat, and make sure they have a water bottle that can be refilled.

Children should come to school wearing their sports house colour t-shirt.

Families who wish to join us can drop children in school to be registered, then start to head down to Mill Lane after the children have been brought into school. Or parents can join us later in the day.

Previously, families have taken gazebos on to Mill Lane to provide shelter from the heat. If you do wish to bring a gazebos, please check with staff on Mill Lane, the best place to put these up.

The morning consists of competitive races for our children from Nursery to Year 6. Nursery children will have the option to join their families for a picnic lunch at 11.30am or return to Nursery with the staff. All children will start their lunch or picnic dinner with parents, if they are able to join us, at 11.30. If families aren’t able to join us, they will sit with staff and the rest of their class for lunch.

After lunch, our Year 6 will lead the round robin of activities and children from Reception to Year 5 will take part in their Houses to compete for the House trophy. Children can leave with an agreed family member or can return to school once we have finished. If you plan to take your child home with you from Sports Day, before the end of the school day, please find your child’s teacher before you leave, so you can give consent.

    Things to remember:-

    • Sports day is held on Mill Lane
    • Children to wear t-shirt in house colour
    • There is no car parking on the grass at Mill Lane, if you are unable to park, please use the Memorial hall car park and then walk to Mill Lane
    • Please bring shelters/gazebos if you wish
