  • White Ribbon Day and 16 Days of Action Campaign

    Tue 19 Nov 2019

Why are people wearing White Ribbons?

White Ribbon Day and the 16 Days of Action Campaign 25th November – 10th December

You may see staff around the school wearing a White Ribbon and wonder why.  Each year the 16 Days of Action Campaign starts on White Ribbon Day the 25th November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) and ends on 10th December (International Human Rights Day).  It raises awareness of male violence against women and girls and the White Ribbon is principally a symbol for men to show that they are saying NO to violence against women.

The campaign focuses on this type of abuse because across North Worcestershire between 1st April 2018 and 31st March 2019, 3638 offences were recorded that involved an element of domestic abuse - 72% of victims were female and 76% of suspects were male.  We recognise that men can be victims too, although in lower numbers and so both help lines are below and in Worcestershire we are ALL wearing the White Ribbon and saying NO to domestic abuse of all kinds.

Wyre Forest and Hagley schools and 10.32 Children’s Centres are all supporting the campaign and information is available from Receptions or High School Community Ambassadors.

A person doesn’t need to be assaulted to be a victim of domestic abuse - Coercive Controlling behaviour is a criminal offence.   You can find out more about it and Clare’s Law, which gives any member of the public the right to ask the police if their partner may pose a risk to them, by visiting www.worcestershiredomesticandsexualabuse.co.uk

If you feel afraid of someone in your life who is supposed to care about you, but hurts you deliberately or doesn’t let you live your life the way you want to, don’t suffer in silence, please ring the free, confidential 24 hour Worcestershire Domestic Abuse helpline which is staffed by trained workers 0800 980 3331. You can visit www.westmerciawomensaid.org for more information.

The male helpline number is 0800 014 9082 and the email address is male.support@rooftopgroup.org.  It is manned on a Tuesday between 11.00am and 3.00pm, although messages can be left at any time.

We hope that you are able to support this important campaign and help to raise awareness of domestic abuse by wearing a White Ribbon, so that the people affected by it will know that they are not alone and where to go to get help and support.

  • KS2 Annual Wyre Forest Cross Country

    Fri 15 Nov 2019 A Churchard

Well done to year 5 and 6 pupils who took part in the Annual Wyre Forest Cross Country event at Stourport Memorial Park this morning. This usually takes place at a different venue but due to weather conditions was changed last minute, it was a great venue though and the event was fantastic as it is every year.

All the children who took part gave the 2km course their all and we are so proud of their achievements. Some pupils were taking part for the first time, others who have participated in the event in previous years improved their placing which is brilliant.

A special mention to Will and Morgan who, by finishing in 5th and 6th place in the year 6 boys race, have qualified for the county stage of the event.

Thanks you to all who came along to support, it was lovely to see you there.

  • Welcome Back!

    Sun 10 Nov 2019

Welcome back to the second half of the Autumn term - an exciting and busy time of the year for us all. Please check the calendar dates for all the upcoming events in November and December.

We begin with a period of reflection and remembrance leading to Monday 11th November where at 11am we will gather to remember those who serve to defend our democratic freedoms and way and marks the day World War One ended.

The Royal British Legion have provided the school with Poppies and snap bands that the pupils can purchase. All funds donated will be go towards the great work provided by this charity.

November is also the month where in all schools we celebrate and support Children in Need. On Friday 15th November our pupils will have the opportunity to come to school in their own clothes and purchase a Pudsey wristband to wear.

Also taking place on this day is the Cross Country  event at St Anne’s for pupils in Year 5 and 6. We wish all pupils all the best.

With our Key Stage 2 RE trip taking place on 18th and 20th November our pupils will gain an invaluable experience when they visit the Synagogue in Birmingham. A wonderful opportunity which will enhance our pupils understanding and knowledge.

Our school curriculum intent is to ensure all our pupils experience a range of learning opportunities and none more so than our Blooms Workshops Week that took place before half term. Each Blooms level is linked to a British Icon and our pupils were able to develop their       understanding of each icon and key skills. I would like to say a huge thank you to all our pupils, staff and  parents who supported this event in school. Thank you Mrs Harrison!

As we approach the festive period of the school year; staff will write to parents with details of each year group/ key stage performances in December. Get ready to be humming traditional and new songs in your sleep!

Our PTA are in the midst of organising a host of Christmas events including a Christmas Fayre which will take place on Friday 13th December. All details will be shared in the coming days but I know all our families will come together to support the pupils of our school.
