Autumn Term -
Principles of Diversity
We shall be learning and exploring what makes us all very different and special. We will celebrate this and share together to learn from each other as well as from the environment and wider world around us. Our Guided Reading text this term will be The BFG by Roald Dahl which we will enjoy sharing together and discovering more diversity here.
We will begin the topic with: The Paper Bag Prince by Colin Thompson, where we meet a person who views life in a special way and celebrates and embraces the natural environment around him.
Following this we will study the book: Anthology of Intriguing Animals by Ben Hoare, which celebrates animals from the natural world through sharing information and pictures. This closely links to our Science learning of classification, diversity and adaptations in nature. It will also be the stimulus for Art through the artists Dominique Salm.
We will be focusing on the area of place value and calculation methods, using problem solving, reasoning and discussion to aid our understanding and gain confidence by sharing our learning with a class buddy.
Our times table knowledge and skills are developed as we learn these through song and games. Firstly we will revisit the x2, x3, x4, x5 and x10 then move onto the x6.
Science, additional Maths and Music will be taught by Mrs Churchard on a Friday.
Our RE topic is Creation and this term our DT will be linked to this topic. Our PSHE will be woven into our whole curriculum where we shall enjoy appreciating and celebrating our diverse world around us. This term's Spanish will focus on learning the days of the week and the months of the year.
We will also have P.E. on a Thursday afternoon led by Mr McDonell and our Forest School on a Wednesday morning, where we use the outdoor classroom to learn and build good, strong team building skills.
