Curriculum Overview

Our Summer Term Topic - Amazon & The Rainforests

We are looking with a geographical focus at The Amazon / Rainforests this half term

Below is a list of our main focus in some of our curriculum areas:

  • Dancing in the Street - Motown
  • Computer programming
  • Answering the question, ‘How does faith help people when life gets hard?’
  • Spanish language for ‘The Weather’
  • PE focus on tennis
  • Science sessions will focus on Living Things and their Habitats, looking at: classifying, the Linnaean system and micro-organisms.

Class texts

Our class text for the summer term will be Holes by Louis Sachar

Another text we plan to read extracts from is Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo.

If children would like to purchase and bring their own copies of the texts to school, it may help them engage with the learning, but extracts will always be given to them where required.

We do ask that parents encourage children to read every night and that children still read with an adult regularly (even just a couple of pages).  Also, knowing their times tables by heart really helps with their maths learning and TT Rockstars every day helps keep this knowledge up to speed.

Our Spring Term Topic - The Ancient Greeks!

We are looking with an historical focus on the Ancient Greeks this half term and will even be designing and making Ancient Greek vases from modelling clay.

Other curriculum areas will look at:

Class texts

We will be dipping in and out of our Teaching live sessions next half term: our class text for the spring term will be Malamander by Thomas Taylor

Another text we plan to read extracts from is Percy Jackson and Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. The book is always well-received and will complement our history focus.

Science sessions will focus on Earth and Space.

If children would like to purchase and bring their own copies of the texts to school, it may help them engage with the learning, but extracts will always be given to them where required.
