Dinosaurs

Image result for harry and the bucketful of dinosaurs

Our topic in the Summer term is ‘Dinosaurs’. During this topic we will be thinking about Dinosaurs, what they looked like, what they ate including whether they were carnivores, herbivores or omnivores, and where they lived.

We will be setting up a dinosaur museum in the playhouse outside, so if you have anything that would be good for the museum please send it in.

By the end of the topic we are hoping to create a class fact file all about dinosaurs, so the children can practice lots of writing related to our topic.

Forest School

Forest school takes place in school on a Tuesday afternoon. Please send children to school in old clothes on this day. Could you also please send wellies to school for children to keep in school to use for forest, and for outside play when the weather is wet.

PE

We will be doing PE on a Friday morning. Please ensure your child's PE kit is in school on a Friday. We will send the PE kit home at the end of each half term for washing. As the weather gets colder it would be beneficial to send a tracksuit into school with their PE kit so we can still use the courts for PE as well as the hall.

Parent Morning

We are continuing to invite parents into school for the first half hour on a Thursday morning. This will give you a chance to see what your child does in school. Their is no obligation to stay, but if you would like to pop in every so often (or every week!) that would be brilliant.

Reading

We are very lucky to have a parent volunteer who comes into school on a Tuesday. During this time the children will read their reading book and if we feel they are confident, their reading book will be changed. Children will also be listened to on a Friday, and again will have their reading book changed if they read it confidently. It is really important that your child reads at home every day. This 'one to one' reading time at home is invaluable for their progress both in reading and phonics. When you listen to your child read, please record in their blue reading record books so we know that they have been listened to at home.

Homework

This will continue to be set on a Friday and collected in the following Thursday. The homework will alternate between a math’s based piece of homework and an English based piece. It will always link to what we are doing in school. If you have any questions, please ask.

Cursive Handwriting: How to Write the Alphabet

Cursive handwriting is commonly taught in schools across the world. It can be difficult to master but this video shows how each letter is formed. When using cursive handwriting, each letter starts with a 'lead in' and ends with a 'flick' or lead out.
