Welcome to Owls
with Mr Price and Mrs Valentine
We are a year 5 and 6 class and are always working hard to make sure that we are the role models the rest of the school can look-up to and aspire to be like.
We enjoy our topic projects and so far this year have studied the Ancient Greeks (including the first Percy Jackson novel) and Polar Regions - brought to life by David Attenborough's amazing Frozen Planet.

Ancient Greece
We are studying Ancient Greece this half term. It is a fantastic opportunity to look at gruesome myths; comparisons of the city states and to look at what life was like over 2000 years ago!
In addition to weekly maths and literacy homework (which will be set by your child’s maths and English teacher) there will be topic homework. This will usually be in the form of a project and may be set over several weeks rather than a new task weekly.
Key Information
Timetable
PE
P.E. will take place on Wednesday afternoons this half term. We will be utilizing an extended, whole afternoon session (as opposed to 2 shorter 1hour sessions). |
Children will need suitable kit and footwear to be ready for indoor and outdoor sessions every week due to the changeability of the weather.
Homework
Maths and English homework will be issued on Thursdays. This will leave Friday for children to check any problems or difficulties in school before handing homework in the following Monday. If children are really struggling or there are exceptional circumstances, please write in the children’s books so that we can help them to complete their studies.
Spellings and timestables will be issued on Tuesdays and tested the following Tuesday. Separate spelling books will be issued to practice at home (they need to be in school on Tuesdays).
As timestables should have been learnt in previous years, we will move on to mental arithmetic once we have ensured the class have quick recall of all tables up to 12 x 12.
Forest School
The last Forest School session for Owls will take place on the 13th October (TED day on Friday the 20th October).
After half term, the children in Owls will be taking part in 'Healthy body, healthy mind' and will need full P.E. kits for Fridays mornings.
On Friday mornings (beginning 15th Sept) we going to be taking part in Forest school sessions. For these sessions children will need to bring suitable ‘messy’ clothes, footwear (wellies or old trainers) and a waterproof jacket. |
