Summer Holiday Homework
8.07.19
Kingfishers Homework: Ancient Egypt
Our first topic for September will be all about Ancient Egypt. Please spend some time researching about this time in history. Bring something to share with the class to help you discuss what you have learnt with your peers.
Woodpeckers Business Enterprise
We have been given the opportunity to represent the school in running the business enterprise for this term. We are very excited about the prospect of making things to sell…. and hopefully making a profit for the school!
We have been discussing in class what we could make as a quality product and then sell to other children at school. We understand that we have ownership of every stage in the process so we are responsible for investing the money wisely and keeping track of what money we make and how much of this is profit.
We will be keeping you informed of our progress and any support you can offer would be appreciated.
Thank you for your help
Mrs Stiles and Woodpeckers Class.
Summer Term: Peter Rabbit and Friends
please see our photo gallery for updated pictures of our amazing afternoon with Hedgehogs.
Our topic theme for the summer term will begin with familiarising ourselves with the Peter Rabbit Book Collection. We will be comparing the characters from the original series in DVD form and then supporting Hedgehog class by reading the books aloud to them and creating games for them to play in P.E. We will paint pictures in water colour, like Beatrix Potter and write our own stories for Peter and his friends. We shall also be using our geography and science skills in growing our own vegetables and navigating on a walk in the countryside using a map and compass.
We had a wonderful time in forest school baking Orange Chocolate Cookies in the open fire.
here is the recipe, if you fancy cooking them at home.
Ingredients:
an orange
cookie dough
water
white chocolate chunks
foil to wrap orange
First cut off a lid then hollow out the orange with a spoon, feel free to eat the centre!
Mix the cookie dough and water, add the chunks, spoon the mix into the hollowed out orange.
Add the lid and wrap it all together, cook in an oven or on the fire.
Enjoy!
Sheila the Bee Keeper told us about some amazing days out focused on bees, if you get the chance to go, they would be great fun.
WOW what wonderful examples of fantastic dragons, thank you all for your support, please see our photo gallery.
Creative Topic Homework
As an introduction to our new topic this term please can you spend some time over the next few weeks making a model dragon out of anything!
My only stipulation is that it must fit into a 10cms box with the lid on!
Of course there will be prizes for the best! You can be as creative as you wish.
Many thanks
Mrs Stiles
Spring Term Forest School
We shall be taking part in Forest Schools every Friday afternoon this term. please can you ensure your child comes to school dressed for the outdoors, NOT in school uniform. Can they bring a change of footwear, preferably wellies, in a plastic bag. Also they must have an outdoor, warm coat to keep them warm and dry.
Many thanks
Mrs Stiles
Guided Reading 2019
Many thanks for your support since September with listening to your child read at home. I always celebrate your efforts with a slip in the rewards jar in class.
In January we shall be reading Cressida Cowell's How to train your Dragon as a whole class in our guided reading time. If you could buy a copy to keep in class during this term, we would appreciate it. This doesn't have to be a new book.
Many Thanks
Mrs Stiles
SPRING TERM
Our topic theme for the spring term will begin with instruction writing about how to build your own dragon model and story telling about How to train your dragon by Cressida Cowell. With your help from the creative topic homework and the guided reading book as stimulus we shall be creating our own characters and developing our creative skills. We shall also be using our geography and science skills in order to direct and navigate around our own created world! We can harness our imaginations to their full potential! I for one can’t wait!
Dear Parents,
we would all like to say a huge thank you for all your generous presents and gifts that you gave us at Christmas.
From Mrs Cadwallader, Mr Bishop and Mrs Stiles
We look forward to sharing a creative, inspiring and personalised curriculum driven by the children having ownership of their learning. I have many exciting ideas and want to ensure we have many ‘wow’ moments such as trips, creative days and visitors to help enthuse our learning. Some activities will involve other key stage two children enabling Woodpeckers to experience buddy support from older children. The English curriculum will include using books by Roahl Dahl and Beatrix Potter, if you can familiarise your child, over the holiday with some of their books, that would support their work in September. Some will be used in guided reading and others will form the basis of a topic. Our first book will be ‘The Worst Witch’ by Jill Murphy. Our topic theme for the year will begin with ‘Tricks and Treats’: we shall immerse ourselves in the circus using the Greatest Showman as a starting point. We will explore the costumes, acts and routines through Physical Education and drama. I hope to have a day with Flip the clown teaching us about juggling and circus tricks. We will also include magic tricks, wizardry and card games in maths and finish the topic off performing a class show celebrating our talents together. For all of this we will be recording events in a diary.
Further topics to explore during the year will include:
Wow what a year planned. Please find me to chat about any of these ideas and themes I am always happy to chat!
