Curriculum Overview

Summer Term Topic 1:

 

We are looking with a geographical focus at  Rainforests  this half term, with an enquiry question of What creates a rainforest and why are they located where they are?  This will cover areas such as rainforest features, biomes and endangered creatures.

Below is a list of our main focus in some of our curriculum areas:

  • Science: Reproduction, and Reversible & Irreversible changes
  • Spanish: The weather & the seasons
  • Computing: Google suite
  • PSHE: Relationships
  • P.E. focus on athletics

 

Class text and English focus

We will be using the text Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens for our shared class read. Children may prefer to have their own copies of the text.

Spring Term Topic 2:

 

We are looking with a geographical focus at  Fairtrade  this half term, with an enquiry question of What is 'Fairtrade' and why should it matter to us?  Below is a list of our main focus in some of our curriculum areas:

  • Science: Animals including humans and Living things and habitats - life and life cycles
  • Music: HipHop - The Fresh Prince of Bel Air
  • Computing: Programming – microbits
  • PSHE: Healthy me
  • P.E. focus on basketball and gymnastics - shape and balance

 

Class text and English focus

We will be using the text Holes by Louis Sachar for our shared class read. A pdf copy of the text is available on the Google Classroom, but some children may prefer to have their own copies of the text.

 

Spring Term Topic 1:

 

Happy New Year!  Welcome back. We hope you enjoyed the Christmas break and are well rested.

 

 

We are looking with an historical focus at the Maya this half term, with an enquiry question of Who were the Maya and what have we learned from them?  Below is a list of our main focus in some of our curriculum areas:

  • Science: Materials & their properties
  • Music: Pop ballads - Make you feel my love
  • Computing: Creating media – video editing
  • PSHE: Dreams and goals
  • Spanish language for the topic of ‘Pets’
  • PE focus on Circuit Training and Dance: Shape and balance

 

Class text and English focus

We will be using the text War Horse by Michael Morpurgo for our shared class read. A pdf copy of the text is available on the Google Classroom, but some children may prefer to have their own copies of the text – whilst there is a film version available which is a 12, so I would ask that you check that it is suitable for your child.

 

Autumn Term Topic 2:

 

We have a history focus this half term looking at

Significant people and events: The Gunpowder Plot with an enquiry question of

Why should gunpowder, treason and plot never be forgotten?

 

Below is a list of our main focus in some of our curriculum areas:

 

  • DT – Stuffed toys
  • PSHE focus on celebrating difference
  • Music unit on Classroom Jazz - Improvisation and swing following the Charanga scheme
  • Computing to learn about creating media - vector drawings
  • Science sessions will focus on Forces
  • PE focus will be gymnastics and dance

 

Class text and English focus

We will be using the text Clockwork by Phillip Pullman for our shared class read. A copy of any relevant parts the text is available for the children in class, but some children may prefer to have their own copies of the text.

 

Autumn Term Topic 1:

 

We are really looking forward to the new school year and making our learning fun and interesting.

We have a geography focus this half term looking at

South America with an enquiry question of

What are the main features of South America?

 

Below is a list of our main focus in some of our curriculum areas:

 

  • Art – to know what print effects different materials make
  • PSHE focus on being me in my world (planning the year ahead, rights and responsibilities, rewards/consequences.)
  • Spanish language for the topic of ‘My Family’
  • Music unit on Rock Anthems following the Charanga scheme
  • Computing to learn about computer systems, looking at networks and the sharing of information
  • Science sessions will focus on Space with a key scientist focus on Margaret Hamilton
  • PE focus will be orienteering and invasion games

 

Class text and English focus

We will be using the text Wonder by R.J. Palacio for our shared class read. A pdf copy of the text is available on the Google Classroom, but some children may prefer to have their own copies of the text – whilst there is a film version available, please encourage children not to watch this just yet as we will build up to it.
