Welcome to Owls Class!
I have had a lovely three days getting to know all of the Year 5 and 6 children and they have all settled into the class very well. We are very lucky to have Mrs Holmes helping within the classroom and also Mr Mountford once a day for Maths. Mr Mountford will also be teaching the class Music and RE on a Monday afternoon.
This half term our topic is Australia and just a few examples of what the children will be learning about are: the history of the country, the geographical features and differences with our country and aboriginal art. If the children have been to Australia, or know someone who has and they have any books or objects they would like to bring in to share with the class they are more than welcome to.
All of the class will have PE on a Tuesday afternoon. We are splitting the class into year groups for their second PE lesson and whilst half of the class will do PE with Mr Mountford, the other half will do ICT with myself and then they will swap. This PE lesson will be on a Tuesday morning for the Year 6's and a Wednesday morning for the Year 5's. Please could the children's PE kit be in school for these days.
Letters with a consent slip have been sent home for all of the class about Netball Club, Cross Country Club and Football Club.
The children will be given half an hour of Literacy and Maths homework a week to complete. Maths homework will be set on a Tuesday to be returned to school on a Friday. Literacy homework will be set on a Thursday to be brought back into school the following Tuesday. Times tables and spellings will be given every Wednesday and the children will have a test in both on Tuesday morning. We shall also be doing guided reading and individual reading so please can you ensure that the children have their reading books in school every day.
A few dates to highlight for you are:
- Harvest Festival at St John's church - Friday 30th September
- 'Drop in parents evening' - Wednesday 12th October
- Individual school photos - Friday 21st October
There will be various transition days for Year 6 at Wolverley Secondary school throughout the year and the first one will be at the end of this month. I will update you on the exact date once this has been confirmed. Both myself and Mrs Holmes go with the children to these.
Please do check the class page on the school website as I will put up more information on what the children have been doing as the term progresses. It has been lovely to meet some of you already and please feel free to come and say hello.
Miss Kopsch
