Curriculum overview

The overall topic for this half term is mother earth, this will be explored through our learning in Geography and across the other curriculum areas. We have an exciting half term with new learning and also swimming! 

English;

In English we will have a focus on narrative writing of adventure stories. Our class text will be The Iron Man by Ted hughes. We will be learning about what makes a good adventure story and how we can replicate this in our own writing. After we will complete some instruction writing, focussing on key features of instruction writing such as: numbered steps, equipment list and imperative verbs.  

Maths:

In Maths we will be following the White Rose Maths scheme of work. This half term covers topics such as fractions, money and time. We will be learning about adding fractions, using pounds and pence and telling the time. 

Science:

For Science we will be completing a biology topic of plants. We will begin by learning about the famous scientist Sir Joseph banks. The children will learn about the different parts of a plant, their function and completing an experiment to see how they work. 

Geography:

Our Geography focus will be on settlements. The children will explore different settlements, how they have changed over time and how different types of land have been used and changed. 

PSHE:

The PSHE topic is relationships following the Jigsaw scheme. The children will learn about the different types of relationships they have. We will also look at what it means to be a global citizen and how this can influence the children. 

RE:

In RE we will be learning more about the Humanist faith following the Jigsaw RE scheme. We will learn about What encourages a Humanist to live a good life and some of the things that Humanists believe.

Art:

In art we will be learning about sculpture and how artists see and use space in their work. We will be creating our own 3D artwork inspired by the artists work that we look at and using the skills we have learnt. 

Computing:

In computing we will be using software such as Cana and microsoft office to create published media. We will look at different layouts and how this impacts on the users/readers. 

PE:

Alongside our PE lessons conducted by Mr Bishop the children will also take part in swimming lessons. 

Music:

In music we will listen to a song called ‘bringing us together’ which is a disco style song about friendships. We will also learn how to sign the song using Makaton.  

Spanish: 

The children will get the opportunity to learn some new Spanish words and use them when talking to their friends. This half term they will be learning about fruits. They will learn 10 fruits in their singular and plural forms.
