This half term, our overarching theme is "Toys old and new ." Through our enquiry question, “How have toys changed?”, the children will explore the National Curriculum through an engaging, cross-curricular approach.
Reading & Writing: Our class text this half term is the brilliant 'Traction Man'. The children will learn the story, create detailed story maps, write their own descriptive settings, and eventually work towards writing their very own version of the adventure! Later in the term, we will dive into instruction writing, beautifully linking to our Design and Technology (DT) topic.
Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling: Our focus will include learning Year 1 Common Exception Words (CEWs), correctly using capital letters for proper nouns, and mastering suffixes, prefixes, and plurals using -s and -es.
Phonics: Our main focus for the first fortnight will be preparing the children for the Phonics Screening Check, which takes place during our second week back. We will continue following the Floppy’s Phonics scheme, exploring Level 5 alternative spellings while continuously revisiting and securing prior sounds.
This half term, our mathematical journey focuses on deep understanding and practical application across three key areas:
Place Value: Building confidence with larger numbers.
Time: Learning to read and understand the clock.
Money: Recognizing coins and values through practical activities.
We are continuing to explore the wonderful environment around us and will be turning into real scientists as we conduct some exciting, hands-on experiments.
Step into the toy box! Our history topic is Toys Old and New. The children will look at how toys have changed from the past to the present, comparing similarities and differences across generations.
We are getting ready to make our own delicious smoothies! Children will develop their practical skills by tasting different fruits, choosing their favorite combinations, and safely learning how to chop and prepare them.
It’s time to get vocal! We will be busy rehearsing songs and choreographing actions as we proudly prepare for the upcoming KS1 SAET Music Festival
Children will dive into the world of Data, learning how to group, organize, and compare information digitally.
We are focusing on vital Athletics skills—including throwing, running, and jumping. This practice will get us ready as we start preparing for our exciting Sports Day coming up towards the end of this half term!
Our big question this term is "Who is God to Jews?" We will be exploring the religion of Judaism, learning about its origins and how the story of Judaism began.
Our theme is 'Changing Me'. We will celebrate how everyone is unique, explore how our bodies grow, and help children understand that our bodies change as we get older—and that it's perfectly normal to grow at different times compared to our friends.
