  • Welcome Back!

    Thu 12 Sep 2019

    Welcome Back!

The start of September and a new school year is a great opportunity for all our pupils to focus on reaching their full potential and to be excited by the many opportunities our school has to offer.

Just like our outgoing Year 6 pupils - who enjoyed every moment of their primary experience - we know all our pupils are very lucky.

Each year we discuss with the pupils, and ask… What is like to be a pupil at Wolverley Sebright? What areas of the school day could be even better? This forms our focus for the year ahead and ensures that our pupils have all the skills and attributes they need to Learn, Grow and Achieve.

A new Ofsted framework sets out the principles that apply to inspection, and the main judgements that inspectors make when carrying out inspections of academies in England. The quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development and leadership and management are the new four areas of focus.

The school website will provide more detail on these four areas during the year.

One way in which you can support school is to ensure our attendance is above the national average. This is a key feature and inspectors will monitor the rates of attendance and punctuality and how the school supports all families to achieve high levels.

It has been some time since our last inspection and in that time we have become consistently one of the best performing schools in Worcestershire and nationally. We are proud of the progress we continue to make each year and feel our ethos and learning culture meets the needs of our pupils. This is why this year we celebrate again the outstanding achievements of the pupils that attend this school.

Our first whole school event will be the Harvest Festival; which will take place at St Johns Church, Wolverley on Friday 4th October.  ‘All things bright and Beautiful’ is the theme this year and we welcome all family and friends to join us in church from 9.15am. Following the service we will hold our annual Macmillan Coffee morning in school. Donations of cakes and sweet treats is a must in order for us to raise          valuable donations for the charity.

Over the next couple of weeks we invite parents to our ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions for pupils in Year 1-6. Each session will provide detailed information for each year group. If you are unable to attend please let your child’s teacher know so all details can be shared with you. All dates are listed on the back of this  letter. I look forward to our year ahead and supporting every pupil and family in our school.

    Shelley Reeves-Walters, Headteacher

    Attendance and Absence

You might have read over the past year or so in the British Press that term time absences are only to be authorised in exceptional circumstances. At Wolverley Sebright, we do our best to support families and accommodate their needs, yet it remains the case that only in exceptional circumstances can holidays be authorised in term time.

More information will be issued in September to all families as attendance is a key feature in any inspection.

  • Stem Cell Donor Event

    Mon 24 Jun 2019

    Stem Cell Donor

On Friday 28th June we will be holding a Stem Cell Donor Drive after our sports day. This is to support a little boy called Finn who lives locally to us who desperately needs a stem cell transplant to help him fight a potentially life-threatening condition called haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.  This condition cause the immune system to be dangerously overstimulated.

A number of donor drives have been held locally, although the very rare nature of Finn’s condition means that it is difficult to find a match.

Testing involves swabbing cells from the cheek with a cotton bud and takes no more than 3 to 4 minutes. These cells are then sent away to be tested to see if a suitable donor has been found.

Any individual aged between 17 and 55 is eligible to be swabbed.

We are encouraging all our families to join the donor drive.

    Exciting News!

In September I will begin my eighth year as Headteacher of Wolverley Sebright. Over the past seven years we have become the top performing school in the county and are in the top 1% nationally for  progress in reading by the end of Year 6.

The strength and stability in the team of hard-working and dedicated staff have ensured our pupils receive the best start at this school. We currently have waiting lists for each year group and our school is the first choice for many parents across the county.

As we have grown, so has our capacity to support other schools and pupils. In the past five years, I have supported a range of schools which has in turn provided us with opportunities to explore exciting developments in education. The sharing of best practice has meant, we continue to develop and we have not become complacent.

Instead of continuing to support several different schools, I am delighted to share with you that I have been asked to become the Executive Headteacher of Far Forest Lea Memorial CofE Primary School from September. I will continue to be the Headteacher of Wolverley Sebright and lead both schools with strong and experienced teams in both settings.

The landscape in education is constantly evolving and it is credit to the forward-thinking governors of both schools that this opportunity is possible in retaining my leadership at this school, whilst also extending my role in the trust and county. This is an exciting time and I feel very proud that this    opportunity has been presented to us.

My vision, passion and commitment to the pupils and families of Wolverley Sebright remains the same. It is a privilege to work in a truly wonderful school and I look forward to another successful school year ahead.
