  • Stranger Danger!

    Wed 07 Jul 2021

    Wednesday 7th July

All headteachers were alerted this evening to an incident that took place after school today in the Franche area.

A man and a woman in a small white car attempted to get a pupil into their car. We have been told the woman was driving whilst the man got out of the car. Luckily the child is safe however, the police have been informed and are taking this very seriously.

We would urge all parents to be vigilant at the start and end of the school day and remind their children of stranger danger - as we will in school.

If anyone has any information please report this directly to the Police.

    Planning for September

As we approach the final two weeks of school we will provide opportunities for our children to plan with staff for September.

Due to the guidance, which we are obliged to follow, our original plans for all pupils to spend quality time with staff in classrooms now needs to be adapted. Every member of staff will provide an overview of what their year group will focus on and cover during the autumn term.

The staffing structure for September is presented below and takes in account key milestones in school and how we can best support our children at each stage. We hope that our families will be allowed back into School for open mornings, workshops and to have a look around when we return.

The School has undergone many changes over the last year and we dearly hope that families will get the opportunity to see how the changing learning environments are promoting and enhancing our children’s learning experiences.

We are currently drawing up our beginning of term arrangements for September and, although there is limited clarity or detail for all Schools there is also the possibility any plans drawn up now will be subject to change in light of future Government announcements. We will nevertheless share our guide for the start of term before the end of this one.

Please continue to monitor our School Website and text messages.

    Reporting to Parents

The final touches are being put to your child's end of year report which we will email to families from Monday 12th July. There is an opportunity, if you wish, to speak (remotely) to your child's current teacher on Tuesday 13th or Wednesday 14th July. Mrs Hackett will send a Google Form to all families - if you wish to register an appointment there will be proposed timings which staff will coordinate with you the best they can.

    Meet and Greet

In the autumn term it is our aim to invite families to a 'Meet and Greet' session with the new year group staff. Staff will be able to share further details of what your child will cover and expect in their new school year. We await confirmation on what we can and can't do so final plans will be shared nearer the time.

  • Wolverley Toddler Group

    Tue 22 Jun 2021

Wolverley toddler group is finally reopening on Thursday 1st of July at 10am.

We have been asked by the Group to let all parents know!

They are only taking bookings via Facebook and they're limited to 15 adults (under 5's don't count under the current regulations).

They need to fill all 15 places to cover costs so they have asked that we spread the word to anyone who may be interested in attending.

    Many thanks

    Updates

Following the announcement by the Government that restrictions will remain in place until 19th July; the DFE and Public Health in Worcestershire have provided schools at the end of last week with guidance to end of term events. We have examined all up coming events with the following changes now needed.

    New Reception Intake

Our new Reception intake transition sessions will now be revised. Remote sessions will replace in-school visits this side of the summer break. We will be sharing with parents our plans at the Remote Welcome Evening on Wednesday 23rd June.

    Transition in School

We can still provide transition sessions within school as we are able to maintain ‘Bubble’ groups. More details to follow next week.

    Sports Day

All sports day events will now take place on the school field without parents.

Unfortunately as we need to use the School Field instead of Mill Lane we are unable to invite parents to join us.

Staff will take photographs and videos that will be uploaded to seesaw for families to view.

    Fun on the Field

We had hoped to hold our annual Fun on Field at the end of term. Unfortunately this will not be able to take place this year.

    Year 6 Leavers

We are still able to carry out an outdoor leavers service (weather permitting) as this will be restricted to only the children in the class. As like last year pupils will sit socially distanced with their parents on the playground. Track and trace will be in place with the short service recorded for those unable to attend.

Like all schools we are disappointed that we are still unable to provide a more inclusive approach to planned events.

    In the Loop!

    Friday 11th June

Welcome back to our final half term.

I am pleased to report that I am now on the road to recovery. Following a nasty bacterial infection caused through food poisoning I am starting to feel more like myself again. I was very fortunate to receive such amazing care by the team of Doctors and Nurses at Redditch Hospital - I can’t thank them enough.

I would also like to thank all the staff who have been extremely supportive. I am very grateful to them for taking such wonderful care of the school in my absence. I have missed everyone dearly but look forward to increasing my time in school as my strength and health improves.

    Mrs RW

Highlights from The First Week Back

I have so enjoyed looking through the photographs from Nursery and The Key Stage 1 Space Day. The effort everyone went to to make the day so special was fantastic- Mr Price tells me Year 5 enjoyed their day too! Look out for these on our social media sites soon!

Countdown to Summer... (& hopefully a safer time for all)

We have a busy last half term ahead which we hope will reflect some of our favourite end of term activities.

All schools will need to continue to follow Public Health advice and once we are able to make any changes we will provide notice and instruction to our pupils and families.

With no clear guidance yet, we will be taking a cautious approach to all events as we are aware any positive case so close to the summer break would result in disruption for many families.

We have (touch wood) avoided many partial and any full school closure over the past 12 months because we have worked hard to reduce the risk to all.

As we all begin our transition out of lockdown restrictions we look ahead with optimism and excitement.

    Transition

In the coming weeks our attention will turn to transition and ensuring all pupils are ready for the next stage of their schooling.

Below is an outline of dates we are working towards:

    New Reception Intake

Wednesday 23rd June - Remote Welcome Meeting

Wednesday 30th June - Taster sessions

Wednesday 7th July - Taster sessions

Wednesday 14th July - Teddy Bears Picnic

Whole School Transition for the current YrR - Yr 5 pupils.

    Monday 5th July (1.15pm - 2.30pm)

    Wednesday 7th July (9.15am - 11.15am)

An overview of the staffing structure for September 2021 will be shared the week beginning 28th June along with ‘Meet the Teacher’ dates in September. Your child’s teacher for September will provide information about the next academic year including topics that will be covered and what your child will need.

The main focus will be for each class to have a taste of what their next stage in our school will be like.

Our Year 6 pupils have begun their transition to secondary school with staff from the schools visiting our children.

Staff from the Secondary Schools will be able to provide updated information in regards to whether on-site visits can take place. If you need any further support please let us know.

    End of Year Reports

Staff are currently working on end of year reports which we will issue to families on Monday 12th July. There will be an opportunity on Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th July if you would like to discuss any aspect your child’s report - further details to follow.

    Sports Day

Unfortunately last year we were unable to hold any type of Sports Day. This year we have adapted Sports Day for all our children.

As guidance still remains uncertain for schools post 21st June we plan not host a whole school event this year instead ‘Bubble Events’ will take place (weather permitting) over the last week of term on the Mill Lane Sports Field.

Parents can attend if they wish but will need to maintain a safe distance from pupils, staff and other parents (unless Government guidance alters at that point)

More details will follow but here are the proposed dates and times

    Proposed Dates & Times

    Years 5 & 6 Tuesday 13th July 12.30pm – 2.30pm

    Years 1 & 2 Wednesday 14th July 9.15am – 11.15am

    Years 3 & 4 Thursday 15th July 12.30pm – 2.30pm

    Year R Thursday 15th July 9.15am – 11.15am

    Year 6 Leavers

This year our Year 6 Leavers event will take place on the school playground on Friday 16th July 11.00am - 12.00pm. Parents are invited to join their child as we present and celebrate their time with us.

Following this service our Year 6 will continue their celebrations with a special luncheon (of their choice) in school. They will also have time with their buddy and will help lead in our End of Year Celebration Assembly.

    'The Big Ask'

The new Children’s Commissioner for England wants to undertake the “Biggest survey of children – The Big Ask”. In addition she will fight for Free School Meals to continue to run into school holidays and Universal Credit levels to remain at the more recent higher rate; small steps that go towards improving children’s lives.

The information gathered will be used to consult with young people on the issues that matter to them. They will use what young people say to help government and local councils provide for the needs of young people. The survey is now out and open until Wednesday 19th May. This survey will only take you 5-10 minutes.

    https://www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/thebigask/

    Thank you!

We would like to extend our gratitude to Morrison's in Kidderminster for their generous donation of garden equipment and seeds that we can plant around school.

Please see the picture below of the hamper presented to pupils this week.

    Holiday Club: Whitsun Break

Holiday Club will run Tuesday 1st - Friday 4th June. If you would like to secure a place contact Mrs Hackett or Mrs Hemming. Holiday Club is available to all our children including our children that attend Nursery.

    COVID-19 Update for Schools

The Public Health team have reminded headteachers that the national guidance has not changed in relation to:

    • bubble separation
    • social distancing
    • self-isolating with symptoms and as a close contact
    • PCR testing for COVID-19 symptoms
    • hand/respiratory hygiene

There has been no change in guidance to schools and therefore we should make sure that bubbles continue to have their lessons within their zoned classrooms to avoid bubble mixing between lessons.

It is crucially important that we all remain vigilant and continue to apply the controls that schools have been managing so well over the year.

Although cases are currently low in Worcestershire, rates are greatest in the 12-17 age group. In-school control measures are an important public health measure alongside reminding of pupils the importance of maintaining social distancing when out of school/home, hand hygiene plus recognising
symptoms (however mild) and arranging a PCR test. We have been advised by maintaining the controls in place, schools will contribute to tackling and preventing predicted case rate rises and the wider impact of a third wave.

    Car Parking

Parking by most schools can present with problems, we have had minor issues in the past but I thank our families for always supporting the school in showing respect to our neighbours.

However, it has been observed that there has been an increase in families that park on the Franche Road and Mill Lane instead of Wolverley Memorial Car Park. We would urge families that drive to school to use this area instead and avoid where possible parking in areas that impact on residents and on other traffic. Our staggered start and end of the school day should ease the volume but I always welcome any further suggestions in regards to parking by the school.

    Reporting to Parents

Staff continue to assess and plan a curriculum for the individual needs of our pupils. The children are very settled in class and engage well during lessons. We continue to work on building stamina and skills such as focus and attention for longer periods but our pupils have adapted well during and after every phase in the last 12 months.

Our families are always informed by staff on what happens in school with updates shared on a regularly basis via seesaw, through email or by our class pages on the website. We also celebrate each week via our social media platforms.

In addition to this we would like to share and celebrate individual achievements with you as we did during the autumn term. A great deal has taken place and we are aware that now is a good time to refresh and refocus.

Our remote parent conversations will take place soon (details will be sent out separately) and appointments will be organised to best suit all. Staff will provide an update on where your child is and what the focus for the next stage of learning will be. The opportunity to talk through how we achieve this will be as before, remotely, with the option of either a phone call or an online video link. We will reflect on what worked well before and make any changes that will support this method.

At the end of the school year staff will issue an End of Year report which will reflect on all aspects of the curriculum with a focus on transition links.

    Transition

Our Year 6 pupils will begin to develop and build links with their new schools starting next week for pupils that will move to Wolverley Secondary School. The opportunity to attend their summer school has been shared with parents and we would recommend that the children who will attend this school take up this offer. It will make a big difference!

The rest of the children in school will begin transition sessions after the Whitsun break. Getting the balance right is really important. Start too soon and the children can become unsettled - start too late can children start to wobble about the unknown. What we will focus on is getting it just right.

We will make sure our children spend time with staff and have the opportunities to experience what the next year will hold.

    Summer Term: Week 2

    Friday 30th April 2021

    In School

It is a pleasure to see how well our children are settling back into school life and engaging in all aspects of the timetable. Forest School is used by all our pupils and brings opportunities that support and inspire. Our full PE timetable has resumed with an additional focus 'Healthy Minds & Healthy Bodies' this term.

We have gradually re-introduced tasks that can be carried at home which reinforce the learning in school ~ please check information from your child's teacher each week.

It is wonderful to see the many achievements on the Seesaw class platforms, social media pages and in the children's books. We are so proud of our children and the support they receive from their families - thank you so much!

    In Nursery

Our amazing nursery children have settled so well during their first two weeks with us. The staff are working so well with our new and existing families to create the strong foundations  our younger children need. Look out for updates on our Instagram page and our new Nursery section (coming soon) on our website.

    Crossing Patrol

Please can we ask that parents support us in reinforcing road safety to all pupils. It has been observed that not all pupils on bikes and scooters dismount when they reach the crossing patrol and in some cases don't wait until Kay is in the middle of the road when it is safe.

We also need to remind our pupils that they need to cross in front of Kay and not walk behind her. Kay is there to help and support keep our children and families safe on this busy road. Thank you!

    Superstar Rose!

We shared last week the amazing news that Rose had won the One Big Idea competition organised by SAET. In addition to this recognition Rose will be able to help me select £1,000 worth of new books for all the children in our school. I love to shop when someone else is paying...

    Week 1 - Summer Term

    Friday 23rd March 2021

Welcome back to our Summer Term... the sun is shining and our new nursery is finally open! We also, this week, welcomed new pupils into Reception, Year 3, Year 5 and Year 6. We look forward to getting to know all our new families in the days ahead.

    THANK YOU!

A big thank you to our PTA who before the Easter break organised the Easter Crafts and Raffle and over the Easter break supported Mrs Harrison with the purchase of items for the new outdoor area. All funds raised through the purchase of Easter gifts and events such as the raffle support projects in our school.

Next week Year 1 will have delivery of new outdoor tables and parasols and the Nursery will receive new weatherproof outdoor mark marking boards that will attach to the fencing.

A special thank you to Mrs Val Ronan who has very kindly donated new and newly new toys for our nursery. The overwhelming amount of toys was staggering and has made sure our new nursery children have everything they need.

    Nursery: Week 2

As part of the settling in period our nursery children will increase their time to three, three hour sessions next week. If you need to check days please contact Miss Harrold or Mrs Pugh via Seesaw or email

    nursery@wolverleysebright.worcs.sch.uk.

If your child attends the afternoon session they will need to bring a named lunchbox.

    SAET One Big Idea Competition

We are thrilled that Rose from Swallows (Year 5) came up with the winning idea to help change the world and has won the school £1,000 for books and library resources.

Judges of the One Big Idea project awarded Rose first place for her 'My Teddy Friend', a teddy to help children share their emotions with an app to help parents understand their needs and support their wellbeing.

Rose was one of hundreds of children from Severn Academies Educational Trust (SAET) primary schools who took part in the project designed to encourage creative thinking and further collaborative work between the trust schools.

We are so proud of Rose and all the children who took part in the school final.

    Year 6 Health Kick

Our Year 6 pupils began their Health Kick sessions this week with The Harriers. The pupils will focus on PSHE themes and gain a greater awareness of why it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Healthy Minds - Healthy Bodies.

    Music Returns!

Music lessons resumed in school this week. Pupils were able to use the new Sebright Music Room for drums, guitar, ukulele, keyboard and violin. It is so wonderful to have a dedicated space in school for our pupils to learn a range of instruments.

    Year 2 Outdoor Area

Parents, staff and local businesses have worked together to  create an amazing outdoor area for our children. Many thanks to everyone involved. The children have taken advantage of this new area all week.

You can read more about it in The Express and Star article

    https://www.expressandstar.com/news/local-hubs/wyre-forest/kidderminster/2021/04/14/new-play-area-from-wolverley-schoolchildren/

    Hands - Face - Space

In and out of school we are still following the Public Health advice and reducing risks to keep all our pupils, families and staff safe. We are still following all aspects of our risk assessment with children in school remaining in bubbles for lessons and breaktimes. We have a full time cleaner on site throughout the day and face masks are still worn by adults.

The staggered start and end of the school day is working to reduce the volume of people at those times. We thank you all for your continued support.

What a busy first week back!

    Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.
