Visit from an elite athlete David Smith, High Jumper
At the beginning of last week information was shared on the website (latest news) about an elite athlete visiting our school on Thursday 10th March 2022. I am pleased to announce the athlete will be David Smith, a Commonwealth Games high jumper.
Two years ago, 2020, gymnast Dominick Cunningham visited and spent time with the children leading a fitness circuit and talking to everyone about his career, his training, his inspirations and his ambitions. This year at the Commonwealth Games he is competing in the gymnastics event representing England.
All the children enjoyed completing the short fitness circuit, listening to him and asking him questions and I am sure he would have inspired many children. Children were encouraged to raise money for our school through being sponsored by family/friends and we were amazed at the total amount of money raised £1,101
The whole school event on 10th March this year is very similar to that of 2020. The visit will take the following format:
· Each class will complete a fun 10 minute circuit of exercises
· The athlete will lead a talk for the children. They will talk about their specific sporting experience, the basics of their sport and their progress through to more difficult skills they have learnt through their sporting career. They will incorporate the 4 Key Elements associated with success – Teamwork, Responsibility, Communication and Creativity. This relates well to our sports values that the children work towards in school.
· Question from the children
During the last week we have talked to all the classes about the visit, shared a video of the fitness circuit they will participate in and given each child a sponsor form to bring home.
The following are the rewards on offer.
If your child raises between:
£5-£14.99 BRONZE – Receive a signed postcard of their athlete
£15-£34.99 SILVER – Receive a signed poster of their athlete
£35 or more GOLD – Receive an autographed instant photo of themselves and their athlete presented in a keep sake wallet (siblings are welcome to have a group photo with their athlete)
If you are able to raise money through this event that would be great
In order for us to organise photos and signings and have the rewards ready on the day the athlete is here, we would appreciate any sponsor money, along with the sponsor form, to be returned to school by Thursday 3rd March
We will take lots of photos and we are also inviting the local press to attend to highlight the visit and raise the profile of our school in the community.
Key Dates:
31/01/22 Event shared with pupils and sponsor forms given out
03/03/22 Sponsor forms and money collected
10/03/22 Athlete visit
Thank you, as always, for all your support.
Great news! On Thursday 10th March an elite athlete will be visiting our school. They will be working alongside our children participating in an exciting fitness circuit, they will also be leading an inspiring assembly.
You may recall, back in 2020 Dominick Cunningham, a world class gymnast, visited us. All the children took part in the fitness workshop and thoroughly enjoyed the day. I do not yet know who the athlete will be for this year's visit but I am sure it will be an exciting day again.
Over the next couple of days, each class will watch a short DVD about the impending visit and will then bring home a sponsor form. Hopefully, as a school, we will be able to raise some money for our sports provision. More details will follow about sponsorship and the day itself. Of course we wait with anticipation to hear who our visiting athlete is going to be!
