Phonics

Each day in Hedgehogs we begin our morning by doing our register and then we go into our phonics lesson. We learn 2 new sounds each week and have 2 lessons on each sound and then the other day is a consolidation lesson. We will send Phonics worksheets home at the end of each week based on the corresponding sounds we have been focusing on that week. We will also hold phonics and reading sessions for parents to attend throughout the year.

Maths

Each day we also have whole class Maths input sessions where we follow a scheme called White Rose Maths. The content that is taught in this whole class input is then built on during the continuous provision that is set out for the children to explore.

Drawing Club

In Reception, we have introduced Drawing Club. Drawing Club incorporates story sharing, speaking and listening, drawing, writing, vocabulary, mathematics, imagination and collaboration. Each week we have a focus story, tale or animation. The children learn new vocabulary linked to the story or animation and are invited to Drawing Club, where they may draw a character, setting or event. They can innovate their drawings and add secret passwords, magic powers or spells, hidden symbols, letters or numerals. At the start of reception, the sessions may be purely drawings based but this will progress throughout the year to labelling their drawings with initial sounds, CVC words and eventually writing sentences about their drawings.

The children love coming to Drawing Club!

Rainbow Challenges

Each week during the continuous provision sessions the children are set different challenges to complete. There are different challenges each week, writing, maths, construction, creative and role play. Once they have completed the challenge they get to put their own rainbow sticks of the corresponding colour in to their cup. If all challenges are completed by the end of the week there is a reward whereby the children get to have a dip in my special treasure chest.

PE

During this term Hedgehogs will have PE on Tuesday mornings with Mrs Harrison. Children will come to school in their PE kit, including trainers for the day.

When children take part in PE & Games a kit for indoors and outdoors is required:

● Royal blue t-shirt

● Navy or royal blue shorts or skorts

● trainers

● We advise pupils have a royal blue fleece or hoody and joggers to wear when outside during cooler months

**Please note: no football kits or overly branded clothing can be worn for PE lessons. Long hair must be tied back for PE and Games sessions and jewellery should not be worn. If children have pierced ears, studs need to be removed (or covered with tape where this is not possible) to avoid potential injury.

Forest School

Forest school will be on Wednesdays for this half term. Please send children into school wearing old clothes that day. Please ensure wellies and waterproofs are in school and on the rack.

Snack
The children will have fruit and milk for morning snack and toast for afternoon snack. We ask for a voluntary contribution of 50 pence per week to cover costs. While this contribution is voluntary, if we do not receive enough money from parents, then we will have to re-evaluate the snack we offer to the children.

Children can bring a healthy, fruit based snack to supplement morning fruit too if you like, ie Frubes, breakfast bars etc but this is not compulsory. Please ensure there are no crisps, chocolate bars or sweets, thank you.
