English – Throughout this year we will be continuing with our drawing club looking at texts linked to our topic for this half term. We will also be looking at the basics of writing for example going back to correct letter formation and sentence writing focusing on what the purpose is of a sentence and what is needed. Then we will do sequences of learning based of texts that we will be focusing on.
Phonics - we will be using our Floppy Phonics scheme to teach phonics to the children. We will be continuing to introduce the alternative spellings from level 4 and learning the rules for when different alternative spellings are used. We will also be embedding phonics already taught and getting ready for the phonics screening check in June.
Maths
Each day we also have whole class Maths input sessions where we follow a scheme called White Rose Maths. The content that is taught in this whole class input is then built on during the continuous provision that is set out for the children to explore.
Drawing Club
In Robins, we have introduced Drawing Club. Drawing Club incorporates story sharing, speaking and listening, drawing, writing, vocabulary, mathematics, imagination and collaboration. Each week we have a focus story, tale or animation. The children learn new vocabulary linked to the story or animation and are invited to Drawing Club, where they may draw a character, setting or event. They can innovate their drawings and add secret passwords, magic powers or spells, hidden symbols, letters or numerals. At the start of reception, the sessions may be purely drawings based but this will progress on throughout the year to labelling their drawings with initial sounds, CVC words and eventually writing sentences about their drawings.
The children love coming to Drawing Club!
PE
During this term Hedgehogs will have PE on Wednesday mornings with Mrs Kendall.
Forest School
Forest school will be on Thursday afternoons this year. Please send children into school wearing old clothes on that day. Please ensure wellies are in school and on the rack.
Snack
The children will continue to have fruit, milk and toast for morning snack. We ask for a voluntary contribution of 50 pence per week to cover costs. You can bring in a fruit based snack to supplement morning fruit too if you like, ie frubes, breakfast bars etc Please ensure there are no crisps or chocolate bars, thank you.
