Curriculum overview

The overall topic for this half term is the world around us, this will be explored through our learning in Geography and across the other curriculum areas. We have an exciting half term with trips, visits and new learning.  

English;

In English we will begin with exploring playscripts using The Magic Twig by Julia Donaldson as a focus to help us understand the features of play script writing. We will then also be learning about traditional tales and have a go at writing our own. 

Maths:

In Maths we will be following the White Rose Maths scheme of work. This half term focussing on fractions to begin then mass and capacity. The children will have the chance to explore fractions, equivalent fractions and compare them. We will learn how to use grams and kilograms to measure weight and litres and millilitres to measure capacity. 

Science:

For Science we will be completing a physics topic based around light. We will learn about light sources, how we see and conduct our own scientific experiments around light. We will also learn about the famous scientist Thomas Edison. This will also link to our DT topic for the term of making torches. 

Geography:

Our Geography focus will be on Antarctica. The children will learn about the physical and human features of Antarctica and will also have a go at planning a route using their map skills.  

PSHE:

The PSHE topic is healthy me. The children will learn about how to keep themselves healthy through their diet and exercise. They will also look at keeping them safe, the feeling of safety and other feelings surrounding safety.

RE:

In RE we will be learning more about the Christian faith following the Jigsaw RE scheme. We will learn about the celebration of Easter and what makes Good Friday good. 

DT:

In DT we will be making our own torches linking to our learning in science. We will learn about the history of light and the components needs to make a circuit. 

Computing:

For Computing we will be creating branching databases using the software J2E. The children will learn about questioning to sort items into categories using their branching databases. 

PE:

Our PE lessons are led by Mr Bishop. In PE we will be learning all about Tennis, how to use the rackets, different types of grips and having a go at playing some tennis games. 

Music:

Alongside learning our Easter song the children will also continue to use their recorders to play classroom rock using the charanga music scheme. We will also try and learn some different songs on the recorder. 

Spanish: 

This half term the children will be learning all about instruments in Spanish. They will learn to say a range of instruments and will also begin to say sentences such as I play.
