English

In English we are going to be reading and exploring 'The Secret of Black Rock' by Joe Todd-Stanton. The children will be writing an information text, setting descriptions and a story. We will also be focusing on oracy in our English lessons and supporting the children with developing their vocabulary. 

Maths

In Maths we will be learning about fractions and time. We will also be further developing our mastery maths and developing our reasoning. 

Science

This term in Science we will be focusing on the theme 'growing up'.

Geography

In Geography we will be linking to our theme. We will be looking at what life is like living by the coast. 

Art

In Art we will be focusing on 'life in colour'. We will be painting and using collage to create different pieces of art. 

Computing 

We will be looking at programming and making quizzes. 

PE

Mr Bishop will be focusing on developing striking and fielding skills. We will also be taking part in 'net and wall' activities. 

Music

Through our charanga scheme we will be learning a song about 'friendship.'

PSHE

Through our Jigsaw scheme we will be looking at the topic 'relationships'.

RE

In RE we use the Jigsaw scheme to aid our learning. This half term the children will be learning about 'Sikhism.'

Welcome to Spring 2! Our theme this term is 'Our world around us'. 

English

In English we are going to be reading 'Moth' by Isabel Thomas. The children will be writing instructions about 'How to make a moth trap' and an information text. 

We will also be reading 'Wild' by Emily Hughes and we will be writing a diary entry, character, setting descriptions and innovating a story. We will also be revisiting the use of conjunctions and other key features. 

Maths

In Maths we will be continuing to revisit addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will also be taking part in lots of practical lessons about length, height, mass, capacity and temperature. 

Science

This term in Science we will be focusing on living things and their habitats. We will be looking at food chains too. 

Geography

This half term in Geography we will be learning why our world is wonderful. We will be exploring our local area and what is amazing in our local area. 

Design and Technology

In Design and Technology we will be focusing on structures and making baby bear chairs. We will be exploring stability and strengthening materials. 

Computing

We will be using IT apps to create music. 

PE

Mr Bishop will be focusing on target and invasion games. 

Music

Through our Charanga scheme, we will be learning about reggae music. 

PSHE

Through our Jigsaw scheme we will be looking at the topic 'Healthy me'.

RE

In RE we use the Jigsaw Scheme to aid our learning. This half term the children will be learning about Christianity. 

Welcome to the Spring Term!

English - 

In English we are going to be reading Little people big dreams 'Amelia Earhart'. The children will be writing poems, newspaper reports and setting descriptions. We will be revisiting expanded noun phrases and other key features. 

We will also be exploring poetry and reading a variety of poems from 'The Puffin Book of Fantastic First Poems.' 

In grammar lessons we will be focusing on possessive apostrophes and contractions. 

Spelling Focus - 

This term we will be learning the different rules when adding suffixes to root words. 

Maths - 

We will be learning about money, multiplication and division. 

Science - 

We will be focusing on plants and taking part in an experiment. We will also be learning about living things and their habitats. 

History - 

In History we will be learning about 'How did we learn to fly?' and significant people that helped develop the history of flight. 

Art - 

In Art we will be developing our practical skills working with clay and applying artistic techniques in a project. 

Computing - 

We will be learning about IT around us.

PE - 

Mr Bishop will be focusing on dance and developing different dance skills.

Music - 

Through our Charanga scheme, we will be exploring the song ' I want to play in a band!'

RE - 

In RE we use the Jigsaw Scheme to aid our learning. This half term the children will be learning about 'How important is the Prophet Muhammad to Muslims?'

Autumn Term 1 Topic:

Our topic for the first part of the Autumn Term will be “Amazing Africa”. This topic will cover many areas of National Curriculum and will give the children a cross curricular approach to their learning. This will include: 

English:  On Literacy Shed Plus, We will be exploring a film unit called 'Zahra' which is about a young girl in Africa. Throughout our English lessons, we will be creating a character description, exploring expanded noun phrases and retelling the story. 

Guided Reading: Using our reading V.I.P.E.R.S, we will be exploring the story 'Meerkat Mail' by Emily Gravett

Spelling Focus: Through assessment, we will initially recap the sounds learnt in Robins. We will then begin to learn the rules for 'kn' and 'gn', soft 'c' and soft 'j' and some common exception words. 

Maths: We will be focusing on place value to 100 as well as some addition and subtraction.

Science: We will be focusing on animals' needs for survival, focusing on the 6 main animal groups. 

Geography: We will be focusing on how different our life would be if we lived in Kenya. 

Art: The key skill we will be focusing on is 'Drawing'. We will be developing a range of mark making techniques, exploring and experimenting with mark making to create textures, observational drawing, applying expressions to illustrate a character and developing illustrations to create a story. 

Computing: We will be creating media through digital photography.

PE:  Mr Bishop and Miss Price will be focusing on invasion games and developing throwing and catching skills. 

Music: Through our Charanga scheme, we will be exploring the song 'Hands, feet and Heart' by Joanna Mangona, which celebrates South African music. 

PSHE: Through our Jigsaw scheme, we will be looking at the topic 'Being Me in My World'.
