Upcoming Parent's Evening

Information for Parent's

Dear Parents

We are looking forward to welcoming you at parents’ evening next week. This will be an opportunity for you to discuss how your child has settled in to this academic year and share our baseline assessment judgements with you using our new online tracking software.

You may be aware that back in September the Government launched its ‘revised’ Primary Curriculum for all children in Years 1 – 6.  The National Curriculum provides an outline of core knowledge around which teachers can develop exciting and stimulating lessons to promote the development of pupils’ knowledge, understanding and skills as part of the wider school curriculum.

The demands of the revised curriculum are much higher than the ‘old’ curriculum, and during the summer term our teachers spent a great deal of time identifying where your child was on the old curriculum and matching this to the requirements of the new curriculum.  Because of this, children who may have been working Above National Expectation may now been judged to be working At National Expectation; those working At National Expectation may now be working just Below National Expectation.

This picture has been replicated across all primary schools in the country and is not a reflection of a drop in a child’s performance between the summer and now.  All of our teachers are working exceedingly hard to ensure that any perceived ‘gap’ created by this realignment is addressed whilst continuing to move the children forward with the new programmes of study.

At Parents’ Evening we will provide you with a copy of your child’s Target Booklet which outlines the new curriculum enabling you to be aware of and support your child’s learning.

If you have any concerns or questions about this, your child’s class teacher will be able to discuss this with you.
